The cheat sheet

What you are walking into

The one that put line dancing back on everyone's phone. Expect a crowded floor and a lot of first-timers.

What catches people out

There is no single official version — several went viral at once. Watch which one this room does.

How to get through it

You will not be the only person learning it. That is the best possible time to try a dance.

These are ours, written for someone who has not danced it yet — not a step sheet. For exact counts, see the choreographer's sheet linked above, or come to a night and let someone teach you.

How it goes

48 counts · 4 walls · Intermediate

This is the higher-count version — 48 counts, intermediate. It has the strongest following, but if you are brand new, watch what your room does: several simpler versions of this song are also danced.

1–8

Pivot halves and shuffles

Step forward right and pivot a half left, shuffle forward right. Step forward left and pivot a half right, shuffle forward left.

9–16

Side rocks and behind-side-cross

Rock right out to the side, recover, then behind-side-cross to the right. Mirror it on the left.

17–24

Dorothy, flick, twist, shuffle back

A Dorothy step diagonally forward right, flick your left behind and hook the right in front. Touch your right toe forward, twist both heels and back, then shuffle backward.

25–32

Full turn back, coaster, heel switches

A full turn left travelling backwards — or just walk back if you would rather. Coaster into a left heel, then quick heel switches side to side, finishing with a flick.

33–40

Heel grinds and a weave

Grind your right heel, then your left. Step through a small weave — side, together, side, together — and cross your right over.

41–48

Weave and pivot turns

Step left, cross behind, syncopated weave, then a quarter turn left and two half-turn pivots to bring you back to the front.

Written in our own words from the most-voted step sheet, so you can read it before you go. It is not the choreographer’s own notation — for that, see their sheet. Most of these dances have several versions; your room may do a different one.

Go dance this week

We do not claim to know which night plays which song. What we do know is where country dancing happens — here are three of the region's nights, and the calendar has the rest.
