Line Dance vs. Country Partner Dancing
Country nights run two kinds of dancing. Line dancing is solo and choreographed. Partner dancing — two-step, country swing, waltz — needs someone to dance with and is improvised.
Line dancing: solo, choreographed, repeating
Everyone learns the same fixed sequence and does it together. No partner needed and no experience assumed.
Two-step: the country partner basic
A traveling partner dance, quick-quick-slow-slow, moving counterclockwise around the floor. The foundation everything else builds on.
Country swing: the one with the tricks
Faster, spinnier, and the source of most of the videos you have seen. Built on a simple basic with moves added.
Country waltz: three counts and smooth
Slower and more elegant. Played a few times a night.
Most nights are mostly line dancing
Especially the beginner-friendly ones. Partner dancing usually gets a few songs an hour.

There is country dancing somewhere in West Michigan almost every night of the week, and most of it is free.
