We did not make this video — we found the clearest one and linked it. There is no single official version of most line dances, so we are filming the version taught on West Michigan floors with local instructors. Teach it here?

Most standards have been choreographed several ways. The steps below follow this choreographer’s sheet; we credit them and link it rather than reprinting it. Their step sheet on CopperKnob

The cheat sheet

What you are walking into

The newest thing that everybody already knows. Expect the floor to fill the second it starts.

What catches people out

Because it is new, several versions are circulating. The room will settle on one — follow the room.

How to get through it

Watch the front row for the first eight counts, then join. Nobody will notice you waiting.

These are ours, written for someone who has not danced it yet — not a step sheet. For exact counts, see the choreographer's sheet linked above, or come to a night and let someone teach you.

How it goes

32 counts · 4 walls · Improver

One tag. Several versions of this are circulating because the song blew up fast — check what your room does.

1–8

Slap and lock

Step forward right and bring your left up behind to meet your hand. Step back left, hitch your right knee. Then step forward right, lock the left behind, step forward right, scuff the left.

9–16

Quarter turn and groove

Step down on the left, turn a quarter right, then four counts of whatever you want. This is a deliberate freestyle bar.

17–24

Vine left, vine right

Step out left, cross behind, step out, touch together. Then the mirror going right.

25–32

Rocking chair and heel toe

Rock forward left, recover, rock back, recover. Stomp left, stomp right. Point your right heel in toward your left foot, then bring the toes forward.

Full turn

Cross your right over your left and unwind all the way round, finishing facing the wall you started on.

Written in our own words from the most-voted step sheet, so you can read it before you go. It is not the choreographer’s own notation — for that, see their sheet. Most of these dances have several versions; your room may do a different one.

Go dance this week

We do not claim to know which night plays which song. What we do know is where country dancing happens — here are three of the region's nights, and the calendar has the rest.
