Most standards have been choreographed several ways. The steps below follow this choreographer’s sheet; we credit them and link it rather than reprinting it. Their step sheet on CopperKnob

The cheat sheet

What you are walking into

Bright and bouncy, and the song does half the work. A good second or third dance once you have one under your belt.

What catches people out

Danced to either the Kenny Loggins original or the Blake Shelton cover, and the tempos differ. Check which is playing.

How to get through it

It is upbeat but not fast. Stay light and let the bounce carry you.

These are ours, written for someone who has not danced it yet — not a step sheet. For exact counts, see the choreographer's sheet linked above, or come to a night and let someone teach you.

How it goes

32 counts · 4 walls · Beginner

Danced to the Blake Shelton cover. The choreographer's own note says the music is fast and the phrasing is all over the place — do not expect it to line up neatly with the song.

1–8

Ramble right and left

Start with your weight even on both feet. Swivel both heels right, both toes right, both heels right, hold. Then the same going left.

9–16

Heel digs and splits

Dig your right heel forward on the diagonal, step it back beside the left. Same with the left. Then swivel both heels out and back in, twice.

17–24

Cross mambos

Cross-rock your right over your left, recover, step the right beside the left, hold. Mirror it.

25–32

K step with claps and a quarter

Step forward right on the diagonal, touch and clap. Step back left on the diagonal, touch and clap. Turn a quarter right stepping back, touch and clap, then another quarter, touch and clap.

Written in our own words from the most-voted step sheet, so you can read it before you go. It is not the choreographer’s own notation — for that, see their sheet. Most of these dances have several versions; your room may do a different one.

Go dance this week

We do not claim to know which night plays which song. What we do know is where country dancing happens — here are three of the region's nights, and the calendar has the rest.
